Off shore drilling debate carries on!

There is so much back and forth going on with the energy debate. In particular, off shore drilling. I am not so sure that either party has an end goal in mind. What is the goal of any of the legislation they are trying to pass. If the goal is "Become as energy sufficient as soon as possible" than it would seem that they should drill, search for the oil shale and ensure that energy companies produce more of the energy from renewable, oh, almost forgot, Renew the tax credits on Renewable Energy.
