Importance of Weatherization

According to the US Department of Energy, the weatherization of your home can reduce you heating bills by 32%. However, as any home owner knows, replacement of items can be expensive and not worth the upfront costs. For people who may be low income, the government has programs to help offset some of these costs.

For people who are trying to weatherize their homes they can do some simple things to help reduce energy. Conduct a home energy audit. This will tell you exactly where the leaks and most waste is coming from. Secondly, make a list of the following items: insulation, blower doors, air sealing, windows, heating, water heaters, air conditioner, and electrical appliances.

If you have been trying to reduce energy consumption over the past six months, than you may have some extra money to replace an older appliance or window. If you have not, start reading through some easy energy saving ideas and start today. Have a goal of replacing one of the items on the list every other month. In a couple of years you may have completely weatherized your entire home.
